Volunteering for 2007 Lollapalooza Music Festival

Volunteers play an extremely important role in setting the positive, peaceful vibe for the whole Lollapalooza experience, because they’re the primary point of contact for festival patrons. We’re looking for special people to help put a face on Lolla. We want everyone to remember that the festival was extraordinary not only because of the incredible diversity of amazing music, but also because of the outgoing, friendly and supportive staff they encountered!

The focus of the volunteer program is patron services. Volunteers help in a number of ways:

  • help guests figure out how to get where they want to go when the first arrive,
  • assist our box office staff,
  • ensure that kids are protected and having a good time,
  • help patrons with physical limitations access the music and enjoy the show,
  • pitch in to keep the park presentable by encouraging guests to recycle.

Please take a look at the following information to learn what to expect from the volunteer experience. Then access the link at the bottom of the page to fill out an application. We look forward to hearing from you!

Volunteer FAQ’s

What are the requirements for volunteering?
The minimum age to volunteer for this event is 18. Volunteers must be residents of Chicago or the surrounding community. Volunteers must have an email address which they check regularly; most communication is done via email.

What kind of positions do you have?
All volunteer positions focus on “front of house” roles. We do not have backstage, VIP, or production positions for volunteers. Roles fall in the following categories: Patron Services, Kids’ Activities, Box Office, Recycling and Access.

How long are the shifts?
A typical shift is about 4 hours.

What’s it like to volunteer?
If it’s a hot day, it’ll be hot work. Most jobs are mobile and require you to stand or walk around for extended periods of time. We just want to make sure you’re really ready to help us out – it’s not a free ride and we depend on volunteers to follow through with their commitment.

What are the rewards for volunteering?
Beyond the satisfaction of being part of this amazing experience, receiving the sincere gratitude of Lollapalooza organizers and spending time with a bunch of fun people, volunteering gets you in to the festival on the day that you work…plus a limited edition Volunteering for Yooza t-shirt!

What happens after I register to volunteer?
Your information will be added to the volunteer database. Qualified candidates will be contacted by someone in the volunteer program to discuss opportunities. Volunteers will subsequently receive email reminders regarding assignments including logistical details, roles, responsibilities and any other pertinent information. For this reason, it is imperative that you have a valid email address that you check often.

Please note that by filling out an application, you are not assured a role in the festival. We have about 3 times the number of people interested in a position than we have positions to fill. If you have not been contacted by July 1st, it is unlikely you will be placed.

Will I be trained to perform my job?
Absolutely! Prior to the festival, you will receive detailed instructions on your role. Select teams will also have a volunteer orientation. At the festival, there will be leaders assigned to each team; they will be able to provide direction and answer your questions.
